Drafting
Time to type? The formatting guide (below) will help with editing and revising later down the road. As you're drafting think about our interview article: interesting beginning that tells who, what, when, where, why, and how, a strong body that contains a story, and an ending that brings the article to a close. The drafting sheets are below if you would like a visual guide.

Revising
Revision is being able to look at your writing piece as a whole. We're not worried about the small details (yet), we're worried about the overall message. Did you communicate your main idea clearly? Does your article flow in a clear pattern? Do your sentences sound natural and appropriate to the tone? Did you choose words that give your audience a clear picture? Use the resources below to revise your article into its best possible state of being!

Editing
Editing focuses in on the little details. Think about spelling, grammar, and punctuation. They may not be the most fun piece of writing, but they can be the difference between an audience taking you seriously, and thinking you're not a reliable source.
Publishing
Step One: Change all the article in your section to Century Gothic size 10 font
Step Two: Save all articles in your section to the same flashdrive in the same folder
Step Three: On your editor's computer, upload all of the articles into one document. It can be a Word document or Micrososoft Publishing document.
Step Four: Design the page so all of the articles you can fit are on one page (play with the font size as long as it is no smaller than 8 and no larger than 11).
Step Five: Use shading, borders, and Word Art for headlines, text boxes, and the page to add visual interest (keep in mind that your page will be printed in black and white)
Step Six: Extra space on your page? Leave boxes to insert pictures and discuss sending photographers from your section to go take those photographs

The Expose
Expose (ex-pos): Make something visible, typically by uncovering it.
Expose (ex-pos-a) is a form of jouralism in which reporters deeply investigate
a single topic of interest.
You heard the definitions! Let's take one topic and focus on it indepth to uncover something that needs to be made visable but isn't.

Have investigative journalists made a difference in history? You bet! Here are some examples:
Julius Chambers was a journalist for the New York Tribune. He committed himself (checked into) the Bloomingdale Asylum in 1872. In that time, people with mental disorders were often sent to a prison like center rather than treated. His account led to the release of twelve patients who were not mentally ill, a the firing of several staff members and administration and to a change in the lunacy
laws.
Upton Sinclair is famous for his investigative journalism piece on the meat-packing industry. In the early 1900's there was so much disregard for hygeine and sanitation that the book he wrote shock audiences and changed food handlign laws.
Anna Politkovskaya reported on the Russian treatment of Chechnya and the Chechen people. She uncovered the poisoning of children and other horrors. She was murdered in 2006 as a response to her controversial reporting; an award still exists today to honor her and other women who report the news even when it's extremely dangerous.
