Welcome to Publications
I'm Ms.Panther, and this is my website for Lakeview Middle School's publications class. Publications is an encore class that is offered to both 7th and 8th graders for one semester. Throughout the semester, students learn to answer three main questions: What are publications, What forms can they take? and Why are they produced?. Students are then asked once they learn about a specific genre of publications to work in a group to create a real life example of that publication. This is where Lakeview gets its newspaper, yearbook, and other projects.
What are publications?
Publications are any source of information that is produced in a specific form, communicates to a specific audience, and is created with a specific purpose.
Why are they produced?
Publications are produced for three purposes:
(1) To inform
Examples: news stories, yearbooks, magazines
(2) To entertain
Examples: horoscopes, comics, photographs
(3) To persuade
