Yearbook Planning
A 64 page full cover hardback book that hundreds of people are paying a large price to purchase and will be kept for decades. What is it? The yearbook! And you're in charge of it. Don't worry--I'll give you and your peers the support you need to go from nothing to something-something! First, let's brainstorm.
Just like with writing, organizing your thoughts and ideas before you put pen to paper (or pixels to screen) is the way to start.

Now that we have ideas, it's time to focus on organization. Where will each idea go? How many pages will it get? When you open the yearbook, there are two visible pages on either side of the spine--what pages should go next to each other? The ladder is the way we visually organize all of our ideas into one place. Why do you think it has the name "ladder"? Open up the file and check out how it looks!

So now you know what will go on each page--but do you know what will tie them all together? 64 different ideas that need to look like they have something in common? Sounds like a job for: Controlling Theme! Look at the guide below to start creating.

If you have already created a practice page, please select "Designs" from the right hand toolbar. From the drop down menu select "Practice Pages". Scroll down until you find your page; they are in alphabetical order. To open your practice page, click on the blue circle in the bottom left corner. When you click on it, a gray text box will appear. Click "edit" and you have retrieved your page!
Your final page will need 10 pictures; so watch to make sure you know how!
Your final page will need a headline, by line, captions for every picture, and an article. Make sure you know how to add and edit text boxes!
Complete your look with a background: solid colors or patterns are available.
Your first assignment in class is to create a practice page with the following requirements:
- Headline
- Upside down by line
- Six Pictures (including one regular unedited photo, one in black and white, one with selective coloring, one with a background cut out, and one with a border)
- One solid colored background
- One patterned background
Think about the overall design and how it looks from far away and close up.
Pictures are nothing without a caption, and a page is meaningless without a story. In five, ten, twenty years you will not remember most of middle school. Captions and articles are the ways we capture the people, emotions, and memories.
