Broadcasting: Video Editing
After filming your commercials (see Broadcast Publications: Commercials for more details) it's time to create the actual movie! Here's what you will need:
Step One: Getting everything you need in one place
Create a new folder in your U:Drive titled "Commercial". Whenever you connect your FlipCam, CD/flashdrive, or other electronics, choose to upload all information to this one folder. This is the same place you should save pictures you've uploaded or downloaded from the internet. This would be a good time to delete extra files (not another groups--just your own!) and rename the videos with titles like "Scene One". When all of your files are in the same place, then you can move on to step two. Note: you do not need to create any captions, titles, or PowerPoint slides, there will be an opportunity to do this later on
Step Two: Arranging your files in Movie Maker
When you open Windows Movie Maker, there is a large space with a button that reads "Click here to browse for videos and photos". Click the button and upload all of your videos and pictures. Quick Tip: Click on the first video in your file to highlight it in blue. Then hold down the SHIFT button and click the last item in your folder. This will allow you to upload everything at the same time. Once everything is uploaded, you can click and drag any items you need to rearrange and drop them in the new spot.
- Your FlipCam with the recorded videos
- Microsoft Windows Movie Maker (go to your programs toolbar to start the program)
- Any music (on a flashdrive, CD, convert files using the link below) or pictures (on an SD card, camera with cord) you would like in your video

Step Three: Editing your film
There are several "Tabs" at the top of the screen. "Home" is where you can add a title (words at the beginning) Credits (words at the end) and Captions (words on top of your film). The small scissors icon lets you "cut" the film where you are currently viewing it. When you "cut" a scene, you can then delete out the part(s) you don't want in your video. This is how you cut out a few seconds at the beginning or end.
Animations is where you can add transitions between slides and video clips by clicking on first the video, then the transition you want to add to the clip. Drag the transition to the video clip and drop it in. Animations is also where you can add extra cool effects like zooming in and out. These probably won't be needed in this project.
The VIsual Effect tab is where you can click, drag, and drop other special effects into your film such as Black and White or Sepia.
The Project and and View tabs are for advanced users.
To add music, click the "Add Music" button on the Home tab. Choose the file from your file titled "Commercial". If it is not in the right format (mp3, .wav, .avi) it may have an error signal. Consider using the following website: http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ It allows you to copy and paste a YouTube video address and convert it to an mp3 file that you can save on your computer, then upload. You can cut music just like video clips by pausing the music and clicking the scissors tool on the Home tab.

Step Four: Saving your Film
Save often! The first time go to File: Save As. Save it back onto the FlipCam or flashdrive AND your U:Drive. If you save it only to your documents, then the rest of your team members cannot access it if you are absent. Ms. Panther also can't upload it to YouTube and the website. Please name your projects with the class period number, a space, followed by the name of your table. For example: 7 Cherry or 2 Banana
